Fly Tipping

Fly tipping costs you, the tax payer, thousands of pounds a year as your local authority has to clean up after unscupulous contractors dump their waste. There is now a statutory duty on householders to ensure that their contractors are "authorised carrriers". If they do not check this and waste from work done on their premises is dumped illegally, then the householder can be held responsible and subject to a fine up to a maximum of £5,000. One example where householders should most definitely refuse to accept offers of work are from people who call at their doors offering to do driveways or gardening work. Often, these people arrive in vehicles with only a mobile telephone number displayed. This is new legislation which came into force on 21st November, 2005.
